The content of thulium in the earth's crust is two hundred thousandths of one percent, and it is one of the rare earth elements with small content, mainly found in yttrium phosphoric and black rare gold ore.

Applications

1. Thulium sputtering targets are used for thin film deposition; thulium lasers require less cooling, work well at high temperatures, and are used in satellites;

2. Thulium is used in alloys with other rare earth metals;

3. Thulium is used to dope yttrium aluminium garnet (YAG) used in lasers;

4. Thulium is used in euro banknotes because it fluoresces blue under ultraviolet light, which helps to combat counterfeiters.
