Appearance: greyish-white with slightly reddish lustrous metal, soft and brittle, surface oxidation in air; light blue flame when heated and burned, and produce yellow or brown bismuth oxide; bad conductor of electricity; molten metal increases in volume after condensation; can be dilute nitric acid, hot sulfuric acid and concentrated hydrochloric acid erosion.

Application: Used in the preparation of bismuth compounds, low melting point alloys and fluxes.
